Various Days — Bat Talk and Walk at Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, various times, 45211 County Road 32B (Chiles Road), Davis (95618). Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area is home to approximately 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats. From mid-June to mid-September the Yolo Basin Foundation provides a program for people to learn about bats and watch the colony fly. Reservations are required. Various Days — Guided Wetland Tours at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley (95948). A wildlife naturalist will lead a group, school or organization on a half-mile route through diverse wetlands. General information includes wildlife identification, behavior patterns and conservation efforts. Tours can be customized to include requested information. Various Days — Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Access Permit Application Deadline for Multiple Hunting Opportunities. Wild pig, deer, bear, turkey, dove and quail hunts are available through the SHARE program. A $10.50 non-refundable application fee (plus handling fees) is charged for each hunt choice. For more information, please visit wildlife.ca.gov/hunting/share.

Weekends — Ecological Reserve Tours at Elkhorn Slough. Volunteers lead walks every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Binoculars and bird books are available for the public to borrow at no cost. The visitor center and main overlook are fully accessible. The day use permit fee is $4.12 per person, ages 16 and older (permits may be purchased on-site). Groups of five should please notify staff that they are coming and groups of 10 or more can request a separate tour. 5 — Archery Only/Falconry Only Tree Squirrel Season Opens. Season extends through Sept. 8, 2017. For more information on small game mammal seasons and limits, please visit wildlife.ca.gov/hunting/small-game.

12 — First General Season for Black Bears Opens in Deer Hunting Zone A. General black bear season will open with the general deer hunting season in deer zones A, B, C, D, X8, X9A, X9B, X10 and X12 and extend through Dec. 31, 2017. Please note that deer zones A, B, C, D, X8, X9A, X9B, X10 and X12 have different deer season opening dates depending upon the deer zone. General season for black bears opens in deer hunting zones X-1 through X-7b on Oct. 14, 2017, and extends through Dec. 31, 2017. 15 — Recreational Ocean Salmon Season Reopens from Horse Mountain to Point Arena. The season will reopen Aug. 15 and close for the remainder of the year on Nov. 12. 19 — Falconry Season for Pheasants, Quail, Chukar, Sooty/Blue Grouse and White-tailed Ptarmigan Opens (extending through Feb. 28, 2018), and Archery Only Season for Quail, Chukar and Sooty/Blue Grouse Opens (extending through Sept. 8, 2017). For more information on upland game bird seasons and limits, please visit wildlife.ca.gov/hunting/upland-game-birds.

19 — Archery Season for Black Bears Opens In Each of the Five American Black Bear Hunt Zones: Northern California, Central California, Southeastern Sierra, Southern Sierra and Southern California. Season will extend through Sept. 10, 2017. 26-27 and 31 — Elkhorn Slough Reserve Education School and Youth Programs Volunteer Training, Elkhorn Slough Reserve, 1700 Elkhorn Road, Watsonville (95076). A special training for people interested in working with school and youth groups. The training will prepare volunteers for leading K-12 students in reserve education activities — from using the microscopes in the learning lab to leading activities in the visitor center.
