Its almost August and some of the best trout fishing on Shasta Lake is still in front of us!  Currently we're seeing good numbers of both rainbow and brown trout on our daily trolling trips.  Some of the trout we're catching are pretty good sized and they are eager biters most of the days we fish.  The lake is approaching 22' feet below full pool but it looks great!  Water surface temps are hovering around 81 degrees and it seems the trout are the most active at 65'-70' this week.  The trout are feeding heavily on the Shad in the lake which are approaching the 2" mark.  This makes for a prettty easy lure selection with small bait fish being the main forage for the trout this summer.  Traditional trout fishing gear will take plenty of bites, you just have to find the fish.  Stay tuned for more reports in the weeks to come!
