Somes Bar est. @ 1,291cfs. Orleans is 3.4ft. @ 1,690cfs. Mouth of Trinity 2,390cfs water 65.Klamath @ 101 8.4ft. @ 2,570cfs.

The mouth of the Klamath has finally fallen below 70 degrees. In fact it now reads 64 degrees and THAT reads as GOOD NEWS for fishing. The fish should really start to come into the Klamath and start up river.

Last weeks temps for the Trinity Valley were 80/43 degrees with no rain. Next weeks forecast is for 85/43 degrees with cloudy overcast mornings and sunny afternoons. The cooler weather should bring up the fish both Steelhead and Salmon.

The Willow Creek weir count for last week shows 107 Chinook for the week, which is just over 50% of last year at this same time. It also shows that the Steelhead count was 125, of which 112 were hatchery fish. This is a great increase over last year at this same time. In fact that is about 150% over last year. All I can say is that there is one heck of a lot of Steelhead in the Trinity River from Willow Creek to Lewiston. If you have been thinking about coming up to fish my advice is to stop, pack up your fishing rod and jump into your car-truck or what ever and drive, drive, drive! There is a good amount of adult Iron Heads in the Lewiston to Douglas City right now but the water is getting a little low so you will have to be cagey in perusing them. Douglas City down to Helena or the North Fork also has a good amount of hatchery adults but there is a little more water to work in down there. Down at Del Loma the fishing is good in the morning and evening but slows down mid-day. Swinging flies, throwing hardware is working well for the Steelies but tuna balls are working better for the few salmon that are hiding out in the deep pools.

This last week the Trinity has really cooled down and the fish are more receptive to going after hardware and flies. We are still seeing more Steelhead come through the weir but the count up at the Junction City weir has slowed down a lot. The J.C. weir was supposed to be removed Friday but again I didn't get to go up there to verify that to be so.

Down at the mouth of the Klamath the count against the quota for the lower river has started to increase four fold. Las week they harvested 390 Chinook below the 101 bridge and 794 above the bridge for a total of 1,872 Chinook for the In-River Sport harvest. This is about half of last years harvest at the same time but this year we have a quota of 5,000 Salmon where as last year the quota was set very low. The cooler water will bring more fish up the Klamath and should make the Weitchepc Orleans area a hot prospect for the coming week.

Further up the Klamath into the Seiad Valley/Happy Camp area good fishing should be about a week away. The ??-pounders are not quite there yet but they should be showing up any time now. The big problem is that the Klamath had a horrific algae bloom last week and the river virtually turned green with it. I don't know how this will affect the fishing but the visibility was down to less than one foot. As the Klamath cools down the river should start clearing up and hopefully the fishing will get better in that area. Until next time ----------
