Last weeks temps for the Trinity Valley were 93/46 degrees with no rain. Next weeks
forecast is for 89/46 degrees with overcast mornings through Wednesday then clear to
Friday. The Trinity River is just on the high side but is fishable all the way
through Willow Creek. The uppers sections are in good condition with fishing for
Germen Brown Trout from just below the hatchery down to Indian Creek or Douglas City
Junction City down to about Del Loma fishing for springers is hard as there are not a lot of them up there yet. The Spring Chinook seem to be stalled down at Weitchpec and are having a problem with heading up-river. From what I have been able to find out is that the Spring Run Chinook are running late and the main run has not come into the Lower-Klamath as of yet. Mean while up at Burnt Ranch I heard that there was a massive slide that came into the river and is making the Trinity a milky green from Burnt Ranch all the way down to the South Fork. It is fishable around the lower reaches of Hawkins Bar / Suzie Q but it makes fishing at Grays Falls almost impossible for right now. Most of the locals that have been going into Grays Falls have been having a hard time landing many Spring Salmon as to this date, usually one or two per group. I don't know what is going on but it seems that many of us are either to anxious to go fishing for Springes and are trying to early or because the main run has not come into the Trinity yet, or we could be having a very low spring run this year. The indicators said no but I have known them to be off some times in the past. Oh well maybe they will come in to the Trinity in the next week or two and make for great fishing over the Fourth of July week. That would be nice, as many families like to come up for the Holiday and enjoy the river.
The Mid-Klamath is finally coming into fishable shape but I have not heard of there being very many Salmon landed. Now there are some Shad fishermen out there trying to locate Shad, but right now they seem to be scarce. If I hear of any being landed I will be sure to get the work out because there are several riffles around Orleans that Shad like to use for spawning. I do know they are great sport and can wear out the arm of a good fly fisherman. I have been checking out some of the places on the Trinity for shad but not with much success. On the upper sections of the Klamath around the Seiad Valley the fishing for trout has been on the up-scale with many fly fishermen doing good early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Until next time--
Good Fish'en ------ Good Luck and remember: "Keep your Tip up and a tight line lands fish!"
