Willow Creek Chamber Fish Report 06-03-07

Fishing the Trinity this last week was hard as you had to work the slower sides of the current because the river was just a little bit to high for fishing from a drift boat. I made the South Fork to Big Rock drift and we really had problems trying to find the fish. I think there were only a few early birds coming up out of Weitchpec for being the main reason. There are plenty of Salmon down at the mouth of the Klamath but they are taking their time coming into the Trinity. We should have good fishing by the end of the month or maybe a little sooner. I know the river is dropping fast and that could mean a short fishing season in the Falls area. I haven't heard about much action down in Hoopa yet so me thinks that I got in a hurry to do some Salmon fishing to early.
The Mid-Klamath is finally coming into fishable shape. The flows are dropping every day and the snowmelt is not creating much to the runoff. Most of the fishing for Springer's is still down at the lower end of the river but some are moving up to the Weitchpec area and down behind the Parsons' store at the mouth of the Trinity. I would imagine that there are some Springer's working their way up to Orleans but the bulk of the run is still down at the mouth of the Klamath.
For those of you that have not been following the Fish and Game Commissions' web site there has been NO posting of the "NEW SALMON" regulations yet. The last I heard is that they are trying to get them reviewed and ready to post by July 1st. Lets' keep our fingers crossed and hope it happens. Until next time----
Good Fish'en ------ Good Luck and remember: "Keep your Tip up and a tight line lands fish!"
