A friend of mine, Lee Hover, that lives down river from me, about 5-miles, called me to let me know that we have so many Salmon in the river that "it is raining Salmon down at his house". I asked, "are you serious?" and he started to laugh! Lee was laughing so hard that it took a few minutes for him to calm sown so I could understand him, then he began to relate a story that was worth repeating. This is what I heard as Lee related his unbelievable story to me on the phone.

Lee and his wife were in the house when they heard this loud thump on their front porch. Mrs. Hover was in the front room at the time and so she stepped out the front door to take a "look see". To her great surprise she called Lee to come and take a look. Well Lee is one of our early settlers of the valley and he has seen a lot of strange things in his life so he was not in a great hurry to see what THIS GREAT MISTERY was. Mrs. Hover called again, but this time with a since of urgency, "Lee you have to come out here and see this! Hurry." So Lee meandered out to the front porch to see what his beloved was so upset about. To his great surprise there was a very nice three to four pound female Salmon lying on the front porch with salmon eggs splattered all over the side of the house and on the porch. Of course Lee was bewildered as to such a sight. At first he looked at the Salmon, then he looked around the house. Lee, could not for the life of him, see who or what could have done this horrendous thing. Upon further examination Lee could see that the salmon had some strange slashes on both sides of its' sides near the backbone. A little more examination determined that an Osprey or Bald Eagle had caught the fish and for some reason as it was trying to gain altitude when it lost its' grip on the fish, there fore the loud splat on the front porch. End of mystery!

I thought this was a great story for all to see that, "we do have Spring Chinook in the Trinity River"

Good Fish'en ------ Good Luck and remember: "Keep your Tip up and a tight line lands fish!"
