We are having hot weather, low water flows and warm water. This is not very conducive for Salmon fishing. Both the Trinity and Klamath Rivers are having low water flows but the Trinity is a bit lower than normal for this time of year. The best fishing has been in the early mornings and I mean early. The Trinity is seeing Salmon passing through but they are in hurry to get up river to cooler waters. I am getting reports both rivers but the counts are very low for this time of year. Hopefully we will see more fish moving as the rivers cool down a little later in the year. What I have been seeing and getting reports of good fishing one day and not very good the next. I should be getting more and better reports as we move into late summer or early fall. The Pacific Fisher Management Council (PFMC) estimate was not up to the set escapement of 40,700 natural escapement but they felt this year there would be enough Salmon returning for a Salmon fishing season. After three years of no “Salmon Fishing Seasons” I am hoping that the Salmon return will improve this year for everyone to have the enjoyment of landing a Salmon.

Junction City weir summary: Julian Week 26, ending on July 1, 2026; Chinook Salmon, 8-jack, 99-adult, total 107, 17-hatchery, season total 107; Coho Salmon, o- fish; Steelhead, 1-1/2pounder, 9-adult, total 10, season total 38; Brown Trout 9, season total 34.

Lewiston Lake: Lewiston Lake is down to summer flows now so the fishing has slowed down from my last report. I have not heard from Pine Cove Marina lately but I see that the Lewiston Lake is receiving 392cfs from Trinity Lake and releasing 450cfs into the river. Willow Creek area: Willow Creek has been slow fishing as the water has warmed up and is starting to get a lot of moss. As the water warms up the moss will start to die and create Blue Green Algae. This is bad for the fish, animals as well as humans. The Eel River has already had two deaths and one person get sick. Hoopa fishing is early morning and has been fair. The Trinity River has already had two drownings so pleas be aware of the current. There has been plenty of people out sunning, swimming and tubing. Up river it has been a little bit different, there has been some action but it is not real hot yet. With the hot weather the last couple of weeks there has been more sunbathers and rafting. I think we are in for a real hot summer.

Mid-Klamath to Happy Camp: There has been vary little reports out of the Klamath. Most of the reports I have ben getting from Fish and Wildlife has been about the out migration of juveniles.  The Klamath River at Weitchpec is flowing N/A cfs. This is an increase of N/A cfs. The Iron Gate/Bogus Creek area is flowing 88cfs a decrease of 77cfs from the last report.  The river is still flowing fair up river but getting warm. The lower river at Terwer Creek is 74.2 degrees. Lake Conditions: Trinity Lake is at 1,921,044AF, a decrease of 104,599AF. We are already seeing lowering of the lake storage. Whiskeytown Lake is 99%, a decrease of 0% with inflows of 54cfs and releases of 104cfs.  Shasta Lake is 69% of capacity, a decrease of 10% and minus 10ft with inflows of 7,206cfs and releasing 12,719cfs into Keswick. Keswick is 95% of capacity, an increase of 4% with inflows of 12,794cfs and releases of 12,879cfs into the Sacramento River. Oroville Lake is 77% of capacity, a decrease of 14% and minus 14ft, with inflows of 7,601cfs with releases of 13,660cfs into the Feather River. Folsom Lake is 71% of capacity, a decrease of 14% and minus 18ft, with inflows of 2,071cfs with releases of 4,896cfs into the American River. 

Trinity Lake: The lake is 35ft below the overflow, an increase of 8ft and 78% of capacity, a decrease 5%, with inflows of -42cfs and releasing 415cfs into Lewiston Lake with -26cfs being diverted to Whiskeytown and on to the Keswick Power Plant, and releasing 12,879cfs into the Sacramento River, an increase of 1,192cfs. 

Trinity River flows and conditions: Lewiston Dam is 97% of capacity, an increase 2% and water releases of 450cfs into the Trinity River, with water temperatures of 52.6 degrees, as of 0:00pam today July 26, 2026 Limekiln Gulch is 4.85ft. with flows of 464cfs. Douglas City is 6.68ft with flows of 491cfs and water temperatures of 61.9 degrees. Helena is 9.11ft with flows of 433cfs with water temps of 66.5 degrees. South Fork of the Trinity near Hyampom is 2.70 with flows of 172cfs. Willow Creek is estimated at 605cfs, air is 93 degrees and water at 70.3 degrees, Hoopa is 11.28ft with flows of 681cfs with water at 73.8 degrees. 

Klamath River flows and conditions: Iron Gate/Bogas Creek is 1.70ft with flows of 88cfs, a decrease of 77cfs. Seiad Valley is 1.91ft with flows of 1,068cfs. Indian Creek is 3.29ft with flows of 42cfs. Happy Camp is estimated to be 1,110cfs, Somes Bar is estimated to be N/A cfs, and the Salmon River is 1.64ft with flows of 252cfs. Orleans is 11.4ft at N/A cfs, the Klamath River with flows of Terwer Creek is 7.87ft flowing with flows of 2,582cfs with water temps of 74.2 degrees. Flows for the Smith River at Jediah Smith are 4.54ft with flows of 290cfs. and flows at Dr. Fine Bridge are 11.29ft at N/A.

Temperatures for the Valley last week had a high of 107 and a low of 55 degrees. Rain for the week was 0.00in with a water year total to date of 38.57 and 1.45in of snow in Willow Creek. The predicted temperatures for next week are for high of 90 and a low of 53. We have had a lowering of temperatures his last week but are going back up next week.
