After three years of NO fishing for Fall Chinook Salmon the Trinity River will see a chance to keep a Salmon. Starting July 1 to August 15 you may keep 1 salmon per day with 2 in possession; Aug.15, the Klamath River opens to Fall Chinook Salomon with  2 Salmon per day with 1 adult; The Trinity River will open Sept.1, for Fall Chinook Salmon with 2 Salmon per day with 1 adult. Fish 23inches or greater are considered adults. You may also keep hatchery Steelhead, limit 1per day 2 in possession. Now all we need is fisher people. Don’t forget to purchase your report cards and fill them out before you start fishing not after you catch one or you will be cited if caught. The nice thing is that the Sacramento River will also open to Salmon fishing. It has been a long time with no fishing for Salmon so it might be a chore to coach people back to fish after three years of no Salmon fishing. I think it is great but there could be a problem later if we go back to over fishing again. The goal has been to try and get back to a natural escapement of 40,700 Salmon per season and I only remember one or two times since 1990 that the Klamath River Basin ever reached that.

The Trinity River Flows are still up but are supposed to reach Summer Flows next month. At one time the TRRP and TMC were discussing the idea of trying to reach 400cfs for the Summer Flows to try and keep the Lower Klamath River cooler in the summer to allow the out-migrating fish a better chance to survive and reach the mouth of the river before they went out to sea.

Lewiston Lake: Lewiston Lake flows are still up a bit which might be the reason I have not heard much form the Pine Cove Marina lately. If you would like to know how the fishing is you can contact the Pine Cove Marina and ask Louise or Matt (530)778-3878) for Lewiston Lake fishing; for the Upper Trinity River you can call Junction City Store, (530)623-2803 or North Coast Outfitters (415)596-3488.

Willow Creek area: Willow Creek is still been slow fishing and I have not seen very may people out in the area yet. Some fishermen have been fishing in Hoopa. Up river, there has been some action but not real hot yet. I open that will change soon as the fish will be moving up rive as the summer flows reduce more. The winter weather predictions are not looking that good right now. The rain for this water year did not reach the yearly average.

Mid-Klamath to Happy Camp: The Klamath River at Weitchpec is flowing 5,717cfs. This is an increase of 1,710cfs. The Iron Gate/Bogus Creek area is flowing 1,266cfs an increase of 13cfs from the last report.  The river is flowing a bit higher so fishing should start to increase. For better information I suggest you call or check out their face book for Marble Mountain Guest Ranch (800) 522-6284, or Scott Caldwell, SC Guide Service (530)905-0758 to get the latest fishing information for fishing the Upper Klamath.

Lake Conditions: Trinity Lake is at 2,151,590AF, a decrease of 63,252AF. The Snow Pack for the water year was very low this year, we seeing lowering of the lake storage already. Whiskeytown Lake is 98%, an increase of 8% with inflows of 1,192cfs and releases of 1,222cfs.  Shasta Lake is 87% of capacity, a decrease of 4% and minus 7ft with inflows of 4,839cfs and releasing 9,519cfs into Keswick. Keswick is 79% of capacity, a decrease of 5% with inflows of 10,299cfs and releases of 10,767cfs into the Sacramento River. Oroville Lake is 97% of capacity, a decrease of 1% and minus 2ft, with inflows of 2,510cfs with releases of 5,047cfs into the Feather River. Folsom Lake is 97% of capacity, an increase of 1% and plus ft, with inflows of 2,527cfs with releases of 2,061cfs into the American River.

Willow Creek is estimated at 1,441cfs, air is 80 degrees and water at 60.5 degrees, Hoopa is 13.12ft at 2,055cfs with water at 64.5 degrees.

Orleans is 3.90ft at 3,662cfs, the Klamath River at Terwer Creek is 9.63ft flowing at 6,142cfs with water temps of 63.7 degrees. Flows for the Smith River at Jediah Smith are 5.21ft with flows of 630cfs. and flows at Dr. Fine Bridge are 11.93ft at N/A.

Temperatures for the Valley last week had a high of 91 and a low of 47 degrees. Rain for the week was 0.00in with a water year total to date of 38.60 and 1.45in of snow in Willow Creek. The predicted temperatures for next week are for high of 86 and a low of 44. It looks like it is going to warm up a bit mid-week with some clouds for the weekend.

Good Fishin and Good Luck but remember; “keep your tip up with a tight line lands fish”
