Last weeks temperatures for the Trinity Valley were 52/32 with 0.4 inches of?Įrain. Next weeks forecast is for 58/40 degrees with scattered showers Monday?Įand rain into the weekend. There is a reported large storm headed into the?Įvalley for the coming week. At the present time (3:27PM) the wind is blowing?Įin strong gusts up and down the river.

I have to apologize for not being able to get out a fishing report for the?Įlast month but I bought a new computer with Vista and have been having great?Įdifficulty in learning all of the new programs and how to get them to do the?Įold things. Like they say "new computer same old operator", big problem. I?Įdo thank all of my readers for bearing it out with me. Many of you called?Įand emailed me to see what the heck was going on and if I was ever going to?Įput out a fishing report.

The Willow Creek Weir was pulled out November 9th and I have not received a?Įfinal summary of the counts yet I hope to have them for next week but I will?Įtry to bring you up to date for now. The Trinity River Hatchery received?Į6,034 Spring Run Chinook. The Fall Run count as of Oct.28; Chinook 1,021;?ĮCoho 97; Steelhead 4,899 of which 4,233 were hatchery Steelhead, which?Įequates to about 86% of the run were hatchery fish. This is not totally?Įaccurate as there is still hatchery Steelhead coming into the river and the?Įwinter run of Native Steelhead has not really started yet even though there?Įhas been some native fish caught and released lately.

The upper section of the Trinity has been producing some very good fishing?Įbut it has also been very crowded on the weekends. In fact while fishing on?Įthe Junction City run I counted 20, yes this is not a typo, 20 drift boats?Įfrom Evans Bar down to Pigeon Point (North Fork/Helena) take out. I lost?Įcount of the fishermen but I would say that every good hole or fly area had?Įat least 3 fishermen trying their luck. I know my customers were lucky to?Įland 2 hatchery fish on a Saturday because there were so many fishermen on?Įthe river. On November 19 a couple of workers from Sparks NV, Ross & Ray?ĮFoote, took the afternoon off to go fishing with me and I was able to put?Įthem onto 6 good hookups, but they were only able to boat two very nice?ĮHatchery Steelhead. Ray's was 24in. and Ross's was 25in. Although they were?Įraised up in Orleans they had only caught ??-pounders as kids. So this was a?Įvery good trip for them as they were able to land their first adult?ĮSteelies. On the Nov.24th a couple new to the area, Richard and Paula Flurry?Įof Burnt Ranch, went fishing with me on the Del Loma run and was able to?Įland a very nice 26-1/2 inch hatchery Steelhead. This was Richards first?Įtime going Steelhead fishing and I think he is hooked for good now! It was a?Įbeautiful Buck in full spawning color. This same weekend my best fishing?Įbuddy Ed Trujillo and a couple of his friends were also fishing the same run?Įand only landed one fish also. The next day they tried the Junction City run?Įand were much better compensated. They were able to land 10 fish with the?Įbest one coming in at 10lbs. Ben Benifield of Sacramento was the lucky?Įfisherman. We did see several bank fishermen making good hookups and landing?Įsome nice adult Steelhead. All in all I would say that was a very good?ĮThanksgiving weekend. You must remember that on weekends you are going to?Įhave plenty of boat traffic and lots of wading fishermen to contend with but?Įif everyone will just use good river etiquette everyone can have a great?Įfishing experience and enjoy the river.

This last week I had to go up to Oregon and on the way back I came down the?ĮKlamath River from I-5 down to Weitchpec. In the I-5 to Seiad Valley there?Įwere some fishermen and several drift boats and a raft fishing. I didn't see?Įany of them hook a fish but I did notice that the River in that area had?Įlots of brown algae foam on the water and along the banks. I can't say that?Įis the reason for no hookups but the water condition sure didn't look?Įconducive for good fishing. As I drove on down river I noticed that the?Įwater quality improved quite a lot as I got closer to Happy Camp. By the?Įtime I reached Orleans the water quality had improver immensely, in fact the?Įriver had taken on a greenish tint and where there was some foam it was?Įwhite. As I watched the river go by I thought to myself that something has?Įto be done about the water quality in the upper Klamath. I just can not see?Įhow fish can survive under those conditions. I know it is not THE reason for?Įlow Salmon returns on the Klamath but it surely has to be a contributing?Įcause. The Klamath was known for some of the greatest Salmon runs in the?Įstate and ever since the 2002 "Fish Kill" the Salmon returns have been?Įsteadily going down hill. Something has to be done and done soon or we will?Įbe looking at another fish listing and more fishing area removed from?Įsportsmen. I really don't know the answer nor do I have a solution, I just?Įdon't want to see another river die. Until next time -----------
