The past week at Lake Siskiyou has been nothing short of fantastic. The fishing and weather have both been hot and the backdrop scenery is unmatched.

Watching the sun rise up and over Mt Shasta on this little lake while trolling for big Browns and Rainbows has never gotten old over the past 30 years. Once you experience this you will understand why I am hooked haha. My newly acquired cookstove oven has only enhanced this morning ritual, adding the smell of fresh perked coffee and a variety of breakfast items,  such as cinnamon bearclaws, add  another level to sensory overload.

Now let's talk fishing. Lake Siskiyou has been fabulous fishing literally every trip since my first one of 2023 back in February. We are now in July and limits of tasty Browns and Bows have been easy. The limits have mostly been made of up 1 to 3 pound Rainbow trout.  Browns and Rainbows in the 3 to 7 pound class have also been caught. These fish are not nearly as common but some trips we have had double digit days of fish that size. This past week trip we caught 3 to 6 fish over 3 pounds. Double digit fish days have been the norm, the high was 40 fish landed.

These Trout are tremendous table fair and the meat is often a rich deep orange color. The limit is 5 per person, and I always recommend only keeping what you think you will eat while they are fresh. I am not a fan of frozen Trout. Fresh is always best but smoking these fish is a great way to make them last longer and is a tasty cooking option.

I have few open dates between now and July 20th. I will be taking some time off to go on my own personal Tuna fishing adventure  out of San Diego. I will be back the first week of August.
