We've seen a slower start to the 2022 Sacramento River King salmon season primarily because our typical target areas in August aren't producing.  There are a few reasons we've pushed up river so early this year.  Flows are at a historical low for my generation for this time of the year due to water hold backs from Shasta Lake and this has everyone making major adjusments to their salmon fishing game plan's.  Water conditions have suffered slightly, mainly due to the amount of loose aquatic vegetation and is slightly lower than normal seasons.  Fortunately we are seeing cool water temps which are hovering around 56 degrees most mornings.  We have a lot of salmon up near Redding but they just don't bite very well this time of the year.  That's not to say we haven't caught some great salmon because we have, but its been tough to get more than a few bites ech morning.. The second week of September is when we usually see a big uptick in the action in the Barge Hole, last year we started up here on September 9th.  We've started catching a few more salmon this week so I'm hopeful we'll see even better numbers coming to the net by the end of the week into next.  The doom and gloom down river is warranted with water temps in the mid to high 70's but should improve in a few weeks if we continue to see some cooler nights heading into fall.  I'll provide another report this weekend and hopefully it will be filled with good news and lot's of salmon pic's and happy clients.  Thank you!
