Today marks the second week of some great days of fishing for Striped bass on the Sacramento River near Colusa, Ca.  My guide team's season will be relatively short this year due to low water conditions after this years continued drought.  Theres plenty of water to fish, but its not the typical high turbid flows the Stripers favor to spawn in.  It seems like every year has its challenges anymore, but we're most often able to overcome them year after year.  The lack of water in the Sacramento Valley tributaries has sort of created a general area where most of the Striped bass have migrated to in preparation to spawn, and that means everyone is fishing the Tisdale to Colusa stretch of the Sacramento River.  Guides and anglers alike have been working this area hard and that can put the Stripers off.  The first half of the day delivers the best Striper fishing for our guides, especially this season.  If you can find the fish and just a few other boats working them, you'll be in good shape.  Drifting live minnows has been the top producer for us and we're seeing limits for the boats just about every day this week.  We should see continued good fishing through the first week of May this year, but once these Stripers spawn, they'll head back down river.  If you haven't fished for Striped bass on the Sacramento River, give it a try.  Striped bass fight really hard and are great to eat.  I would recommend hiring a guide, its generally the best way to have a shot at some success.  I don't have any available guides since booking solid earlier this season, but there are a lot of great Striped bass fishing guides who will likely have some availability in the coming weeks of the season.   Go Striper fishing, you'll be glad you did!
