July 2009--Great weather combined with fantastic fishing made Ladies week and Writer’s week huge successes at Redfern River Lodge in North Tweedsmuir Park, British Columbia, Canada.  “A huge Giant Golden Stone Fly Hatch on the Redfern River in early July was a spectacular sight. There were Giant Stones everywhere,” said Darrell Anderson who oversees lodge operations.
 “Our groups on the river have caught up to 60 fish per person a day. Our fishermen are always surprised by the strength of these hard fighting wild rainbows. The big lake has also been producing lots of fish and anyone trolling gear or flies can limit out with ease. The inflow streams have also been very productive for fly fishers. Five fish per day is the limit in North Tweedsmuir Park with a two day possession limit.”
  A new 22 ft Thunder Jet jet-boat and a 27 ft Alumafix lake boat was added to Redfern’s fleet this year to enable access to the entire lake and river in comfort. Dennis Ried a writer from BC, who has been to the lodge on several occasions with West Coast Resorts, was very impressed with the new boats and said they are a huge improvement.   July 18th to the 23rd was Writer’s Week. Dennis Ried and Rick Passek, who are avid BC fly fishermen and writers, had the lodge to themselves for 5 days. They had great weather and great fishing. They literally had the entire lake and area to themselves as only one other boat was seen all week. Dennis describes Redfern as “a Jewel” and Rick calls this undiscovered pristine area “a diamond in the rough” (untapped and undiscovered.)  Ladies week was also a success. The lodge hosted 9 local ladies in early July. They were given the entire “Redfern Experience”. Their week included touring the lake and river, hiking, canoeing and kayaking, fly fishing instruction, and fly fishing and trolling for big rainbow.  Each lady caught fish and the biggest of the week was 8 lbs. When the ladies weren’t out fishing or exploring the area, they enjoyed the comforts of the lodge and enjoyed the outstanding cuisine provided by Chef Leon Leween and his son Gus. |
