What every Nevada hunter wants

12/28/12 -- If you, your significant other or a friend hunts in Nevada here are a couple of gift ideas now available from the Nevada Department of Wildlife -- a guzzler book or Dream Tag raffle ticket. Many California hunters apply for tags to hunt in Nevada and knowing where to find water complete with GPS coordinates will be appreciated.

Wildlife Water Development Atlas (Guzzler Book)
The new Wildlife Water Development Atlas includes 160 full color, detailed map pages covering the entire State of Nevada. Each map page is drawn at 1:144,000 scale (one inch on the page is approximately equal to 2 ¼ miles on the ground), which means that each map now offers much more detail than any previous Water Development Atlas. In addition to showing the location of both big and small game guzzlers, the book now includes land management status information and UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) coordinates for GPS (Global Positioning System) use.
“There is so much more information in this new book. Not only the roads but the land access is an important addition. It is so much more detailed it’s ridiculous,” said Chris Vasey, outdoor educator at NDOW. “I would definitely recommend this to every type of hunter. It’s such a valuable resource out in the field.”
You can purchase the new Nevada Wildlife Water Development Atlas for $50 from your nearest NDOW office and take your choice of more than 1,600 guzzlers to visit.
The book is also a valuable tool for wildlife enthusiasts. Upland game like chukar, sage-grouse and rabbits use the water developments, as do big game like deer, bighorn sheep and antelope. Even other non-game species, such as lizards, bluebirds and kangaroo rats frequent these developments.

Nevada Dream Tags
The Nevada Dream Tags Program is a raffle that allows resident and nonresident sportsmen a chance at the hunt of a lifetime while also contributing to Nevada’s wildlife habitat. The tags are similar to other western states’ raffle tags and “hunt of a lifetime” tags.
All that is required to get started in the raffle is to first purchase a Resource Enhancement Stamp for $10. Once you have your stamp, you can purchase an unlimited number of raffle tickets for each species available for only $5 each. This year raffle tickets can be purchased for antelope, California bighorn sheep, deer, desert (Nelson) bighorn sheep and elk.

All money raised by the Nevada Dream Tags program will be used for the preservation, protection, management and restoration of game and its habitat, as determined by the Advisory Board on Dream Tags.

“This program is great for both hunters and non-hunters alike in Nevada,” said Ken Mayer, director for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. “On one hand it offers hunters a chance at an amazing hunt, and on the other hand it gives people the opportunity to help support much needed habitat restoration in the state.”

One of the best aspects of this raffle is the ability to purchase tickets for your family and friends. Anyone can go online at nvdreamtag.org and purchase their favorite hunter a chance at the hunt of a lifetime for their birthday or any special occasion
