DFG’s to plant trout/catfish in bay area 17 lakes
The Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) “Fishing in the City” program is giving anglers something they always desire -- more fish and larger fish. Fourteen Bay Area lakes, three Sacramento County lakes will be planted with trout and catfish this month.
“We want to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together enjoying the time-honored tradition of fishing,” said Joe Ferreira, DFG’s Fishing in the City Coordinator for the Sacramento area. “Fishing keeps people connected to the natural environment. This year, more than ever, people need simple, inexpensive ways to enjoy time together.”
The enhanced stocking is coordinated through the Fishing in the City Program. Since 1993, the program has enhanced fishing near urban areas where people live and work. This is accomplished though enhanced stocking, habitat improvement and learn-to-fish clinics. Fishing in the City is funded through the Sportfish Restoration Fund, an excise tax on the sale of fishing tackle and motor boat fuel.
A fishing license is required of all anglers age 16 or older and all fishing regulations apply. Some lakes may require a daily fishing permit.
The following lakes will be stocked as part of this special program:
Sacramento County: William Land Park, Howe Park and Elk Grove Park.
Alameda County: Horseshoe Pond (Quarry Lakes), Shadow Cliff Lake and Lake Elizabeth
Contra Costa County: Lake Temescal, Hidden Valley and Heather Farms.
Santa Clara County: Lake Cunningham, Los Gatos Creek Park Percolation Pond and Sandy Wool Lake.
Solano County: Lake Chabot (Vallejo).
Sonoma County: Lake Ralphine.
