Good friend and sometimes guide Paul Souza sent this report on fishing last weekend (May 22/23) in the North State. Saturday he spent on Lower Sacramento River and Sunday on the Mc Cloud:
“We had a ball on the Lower Sac on Saturday. We put in at the Posse Grounds just upstream from the Sundial Bridge at about 0800 and planned to spend the day. We landed three fish in the span from put in to the bridge, not more than 500 yards. All were taken on either black nymphs #14 to #16 or Brown Rubber Legs in a size 8. The fishing was steady most of the day, nothing hot or heavy but steady. We had it almost to ourselves until the late afternoon, only then did we have two boats from the Fly Shop join us.

Upper Sac running high- Lower Mc Cloud better betBy Gary Heffley
The word from Bob Grace, of the Ted Fay Fly Shop in Dunsmuir is that the Upper Sac is still running very high due to the mountain snow melt. There is limited fishable water and less wading possibilities as access will be limited to the upper stretches around Cantara and Ney Springs, before the tributaries downstream dump in added flow.
