Fishing at McCloud Reservoir is still red hot. After being away for 5 weeks fishing the Klamath River for Salmon, I had a scheduled trip to fish my clients Chuck and Marsha Colwell of Camarillo Ca at the reservoir. They were not disappointed with their first McCloud experience, landing 30 Rainbow Trout up to 2 pounds, while trolling Sep's kick dodgers with worm trailors. The Trout are holding in the the top 20 feet all over around the reservoir, with the best spots being in the main body channel. Surface temps around the lake are 43 to 49 degrees so trolling slow in an S pattern is key. If you are trolling faster than 1.5 mph you going to fast. Fishing close to shore in 30 to 60 feet of water and off the points were productive. McCloud fishes very well all through the winter but be advised to check to the weather reports once it begins to snow. The road to reservoir is only plowed to the base of the hill so access is cut off.
