After guiding seven rainbow trout fishing trips on the Sacramento River since August 2nd, I can accurately report that this fishery is holding up very well. According to my CDFW guide logs, my clients have had 313 rainbows in the bottom of my net. I've used the #014 sz. #0 50/50 wee Dick Nite Spoons about 90% of the time and like to side drift and boondogg them behind a sliding lead weight system. There have been a few times and locations during the day when the 3.0 Mag Lip plugs have done very well for my clients as well.

I've been spending a majority of my day fishing the Posse Grounds and Sundial Bridge drifts, but there are many other locations and certain spots I frequent as well. Its been a common practice for me to tell clients they will catch a fish here and a fish there. If these rainbow get any more predictable, I may have to start naming them! Its been an amazing few weeks and I really appreciate the rainbows making me look so good in front of my clients. My clients are falling in love with these rainbow trout each and every trip.

I'm expecting things to hold up well on the Sac for rainbow trout well into September and beyond, and with the size and number of the trout in this upper Redding system, I would encourage everyone to give this fishery a try. If you are new to fishing for Sac River trout in the Redding area, give me a call and ask some questions before heading out. Better yet, call to book a trip with me and I'll show you first hand how to catch them.
