Today we fished Shasta Lake and found a semi lackluster bite this morning for the smaller hatchery plants.  We caught several, but the action was a lot slower than it has been in weeks.  We pulled the plug early on the smaller rainbows and Put on the Optimizers.  We pointed the bow of the Willie boat down the arm and cranked up the trolling motor and set it at 3.8 mph.  We were in the water about 10 minutes when my client Kirk, grabbed a rod and said, "fish on"!  A nice brown came out of the water 150' behind the boat and the fight was on.  Man vs. German brown, and man won!  We had some lines to untangle but just a few seconds after putting the last line out, a hot 3 lb rainbow started peeling off line on the same rod the brown had taken down just minutes before. I'm starting to catch some bigger rainbows the last few trips which is good news.  It was a good day and we hooked some more quality fish before heading in.
