East Walker River, NV Report

East Walker Flow is currently at 75 cfs. Fishing has been good even with the extremely low temperatures.  The high water this last winter and spring has really cleaned out the river, pushing a good portion of the mud and sand downstream. Recent electroshocking efforts have shown solid trout populations from the Elbow upstream.  Fly Fisherman are doing well with small mayfly nymphs; Copper John’s, Micro Mayflies, and small Pheasant Tails.  Sporadic midge and mayfly hatches have a few fish looking up. If you happen to see a riser or two… be sure to have a couple small mayfly dries on you. Otherwise, nymphing has been the most productive method. The afternoons have been best, fish are much more active after the sun has been on the water for a few hours. Concentrate your efforts early in the day to slower moving water.
