Shasta Lake is the place to go for lunker trout. The Lake is kicking out 6 to 8 pound Trout on a daily basis. Yesterday, (8/3/17) while trolling Sep's Dodgers with bait fish trailers Conner and I put a few slabs in the fish cooler. Check out the pictures and videos and you will see what I am talking about.

These are some of fastest Trout in Northern California. They are so full of shad they often burp up half eaten bait fish as we land them. Fishing for these hogs has been such a treat for last 3 weeks. It is not uncommon right now to have a limit of Trout where your small one is 4 pounds.

Trolling deep (85 to 120 feet) has been the key to consistent big Trout action. Sep's Dodgers in gold/silver combo and hammered uv green have been my go too flash. Behind these Dodgers I have been running various plugs (Yo-zuri pins minnows) and spoons (Sep's and Needlefish) each offering is coated with Pro-Cure Carpspit or Bloody Tuna scent.

If you have never been to Shasta Lake it is a huge body of water. It can be intimidating to fish. With that said if you look for deep water 150 to 400 feet you can find the Trout. I have found that  trolling through water that is 150 to 250 feet deep has been the sweet spot for me. Varying my speed between 1 and 3 miles per hour while working in an S pattern has produced bites and solid hook-ups.

If you like to eat Trout you will love these fish. The meat is a wonderful color of orange/pink. The flavor is outstanding and the best way to describe it is a combination of salmon and trout. You get hint of both in each bite. On Bbq with lemon garlic and pepper is all you need. Now that we got the juices flowing checkout my website and see what days work for you.
