First of several Free Fishing Days will take place April 22-23
Anglers and would-be anglers can enjoy a weekend of free fishing on April 22-23. On these two days, Oregonians and visitors can fish, crab and clam for free anywhere in Oregon without a license, tag or endorsement. This is the first of eight free fishing days in Oregon this year. Additional free days are June 3-4, Nov. 25-26, and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Emergency deer, pronghorn tag reductions in Baker, Malheur, Union cos
A severe winter saw higher than usual mortality of fawns. See this news release for full list of hunts impacted. Hunters may change their controlled hunt choices until June 1 using the Controlled Hunt Change Request form.

Apply for a controlled hunt by May 15

Spring turkey season is on

Take a Friend Hunting – Win a Prize
Experienced hunters who take a new or lapsed person out hunting can enter to win prizes. Both must be adults (18 years and older). More info

Spring bear hunting season
Seasons continues until May 31. With the above average snow pack this year, expect hunting to be slow in the early part of the season. See the hunting forecast

Learn to fly fish
Let ODFW introduce you to the art and science of fly fishing at a May 6 class in Camp Sherman. The class will take place at the Wizard Falls Hatchery on the Metolius River and will include casting, fly selection, knot tying and an afternoon of fishing. Cost includes use of all gear and lunch. Learn more and register.

Put coastal spring Chinook on your radar
April is when spring Chinook begin to enter the Umpqua and Rogue rivers in numbers. Keep an eye out for updates in the SW Zone.
