For the last week I have been fishing the Klamath River and McCloud Reservoir. Both have been fishing good for Trout up to 18 inches. In the river sidedrifting or boucing bait on the bottom, in some of the deeper faster water has been effective. Running plugs has been difficult, due to floating grass, but when you can it has been effective as well. Crawdad plugs or Hotshot worm combos have been my choice. On the reservior, we have been backtrolling hotshots and worms down the McCloud river arm, as well as trolling Seps dodgers with 2-inch watermelon grubs. We picked up a nice Brown Trout yesterday while trolling a K-7 kwikfish (frog pattern) near the bottom at about 30 feet. Fishing is best at first light or later in day as mid day temps are reaching into the 90's.
