Freezing weather doesn't stop the Steelhead fishing. The Winter Steelhead fishing on the Klamath River (Hornbrook area) continues to be very good despite temperatures in the teens. On Tuesday, my clients (Allison and her 11 year old son Lance) landed a dozen fish. We ran plugs (Rebel crawdad with Pautzke krill paste) most of the day. Mom seemed to have all the luck on the big Steelhead, while Lance caught the most fish. Mom landed two nice adult Steelhead over 20-inches and would have had a third Steelhead, (that was a good 6 pounds) but it shook free a mere 5 feet from the boat. The hotshot and worm combo produced fish as well just not any over 20-inches. The river flow was around 1500cfs which is great for any type of fishing. Jack Trout (http://www.jacktrout.com/) who was guiding the other half of the family (Dad and older brother) worked the river with flies and did just as well. Weather permitting the Steelhead fishing will continue to be good. If your still looking for that stocking stuffer, I have gift certificates available.
